Sprint is starting the second quarter with a marketing push emphasizing on the quality of their network and its ability to treat real-time information, according to the company.

“The idea behind the campaign is to demonstrate all the things that happen on the Now Network in today’s fast-paced world,” said Bill Morgan, senior vice president of corporate marketing for Sprint. “Sprint’s Now Network means that our customers can get what they want when they want – whether it’s staying connected through a call, text or e-mail, surfing the web, using GPS, or working remotely and wirelessly.”

Sprint also reminds prospect users that they might save money by switching. They have setup a couple of web pages: one for the plam pre and another for a 3G modem. Expect TV ads too. What do you think?

The Nokia 5800 is one versatile handset that seems to get better and better with each passing day, somewhat like how fine wine ages although we’re certain you’d much rather prefer the latter compared to an ever depreciating piece of electronics. The 5800 can now stream live TV shows from the BBC by directing your browser here. whether you don’t have an unlimited notes plan to go along with your handset, next we would strongly propose staying connected via a Wi-Fi hotspot unless you want to be slapped with an exorbitant bill at the end of the month.

Samsung has just launched its AnyCall Haptic 2 touch screen phone that features updated specifications over its predecessor that was released just in March :-
Customizable vibration mode
5 megapixel camera with flash
Image stabilization
4GB/16GB internal memory
3.2" touch screen display
Internal DMB tuner
The Haptic 2 will probably arrive in US via AT&T, but those in Korea can pick up the 4GB and 16GB models for $605 and $691, respectively. A mere $80 difference for a four-fold increase in memory? I'll take the latter, thank you very much.

The UN's International Telecommunications Union announced Friday that mobile phone subscriptions will reach 4 billion by the end of 2008, far more than half of the estimated 6.7 billion total world population. Of course, there are some, like John Mayer, who throw off that number by having more than one cell phone (damn you, Mayer!) but it's still a huge milestone. The bump from last year's total of 3.3 billion is primarily due to emerging countries like China, India, and Russia, as well as lower prices and lots of healthy competition between carriers

We've heard it time and time again, but the inner Zune Guy within us refuses to believe Microsoft is really shunning the chance to pump out a handset of its very own. Unfortunately, Lady Luck hasn't done us any favors since the last time this question was posed, as Scott Rockfeld, group product manager for Windows Mobile, recently confirmed that Microsoft has "no plans to build [its] own phone." He continued by adding that "right now [it's] happy to share the limelight." C'mon Scott -- where's that tenacious spirit you had that first day in Redmond? Where's the unrelenting determination to conquer the competition? Where's... oh, never mind.

Right, so we were already pretty sure that Pixon we were eying earlier wasn't a KIRF of some sort, but just in case you still had your doubts, Samsung has stepped in to wash them away. The 8-megapixel Pixon is for real, as evidenced by a teaser site with an absurdly long URL name. As for confirmed specs, we're looking at a 3.2-inch touch panel, 13.8-millimeter thin enclosure, 8MP camera (with Auto Focus, twin LED flash, face detection, and shake reduction), a built-in accelerometer and 7.2Mbps HSDPA. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the linked site is going to spill any other details until October 2nd, but you can still kill some serious time there just rolling your cursor on and off the lens.

Griffin may occasionally help out those that like to complicate their lives, but it also thankfully caters to those of us that prefer to keep things simple, and it looks like its new, appropriately-named Simplifi dock should appeal to quite a few in the latter camp. As you can see, it'll not only accommodate a single iPod or iPhone, but your media cards of choice, and a pair of USB devices (the ports are on the back). It also includes an AC adapter for devices that required a powered USB port, which can be conveniently ditched if its not needed. You will pay a bit of a premium for clearing all that clutter though, as the device sports a somewhat hefty $70 price tag.

We're going down our "things that absolutely must change on the iPhone" list, and yeah, "redo the Safari toolbar" isn't anywhere on there. Not even at the very bottom. Cupertino works in mysterious ways, though, and they've decided in firmware 2.2 that it's time to muck with the positioning of the text boxes so that the address bar and search bar both appear at all times without needing to first tap in the area. They've also moved the refresh button inside the address bar itself, which should truly revolutionize our browsing experience yet again. Apple, screw copy / paste -- we're officially stoked.

If you're a T-Mobile customer who's been dozing off for the past few days, you've already missed your chance to pre-order yourself a G1. With any luck, that won't be a problem and you'll just be able to march into a store on or around October 22 and pick one up the old-fashioned way, but the window of opportunity for an utterly stress-free Android buying experience is closed. We don't have hard numbers on just how many units were being offered through the pre-order program, but 60,000 is getting tossed around as a rumor, which would work out to about 10 percent of the total outlay HTC is said to be aiming for by year's end. Of course, if you're not a T-Mobile customer, this is all business as usual and you're just chuckling under your breath that everyone's stuck in the same boat now, aren't you, you sick puppy?

Finnish cell phone manufacturer Nokia has rolled out more information for its next generation of Internet tablets, confirming the presence of 3G HSPA connectivity and a TI OMAP3 processor. Nokia will also enable OpenGL ES 2.0 compatibility for graphics acceleration and we're keeping our fingers crossed that video playback on the device will be greatly strengthened to make this a decent portable media player. Not only that, the company's Maemo 5 OS will see action along with USB 2.0 connectivity. Interested?

You've seen HTC's Touch Diamond, Touch Pro and Touch HD handled in separate instances, but CNET Asia took the opportunity to get all three of the handsets together for a little get-together. Atypical for most sibling relationships, these three seemed to get along fairly well, though we did overhear the Touch Diamond calling the Touch Pro "a fatso." Hit the read link for a few more looks

Chinavasion, purveyor of all things weird and gadgety is out with they very own projector-equipped cell phone. This tri-band GSM model features :-
Touch screen display
Bluetooth connectivity
Digital camera
microSD memory card slot
640 x 480 resolution projector
The 1,800mAh battery claims to be good for 2 hours of projector use, although I'd take that claim with a huge tub of salt. Would you be willing to drop $370 for this?

Here's a full frontal shot of the yet-unreleased Sony Ericsson Rika, which is essentially a Walkman-capable model of the Sony Ericsson G705. Judging by the image above, there is front-facing camera which indicates 3G compatibility. Other than that, not much information is available so you'll just have to watch this space.

Here's a secretive new compact projector that doesn't have any name or model number attached to it just yet, but it does boast the following :-
4:3 aspect ratio
Max. 180/min. 21cm projection distance
640 x 480 resolution
NTSC & PAL video sources
The built-in battery is able to last for up to 40 minutes before it requires a trip to the nearest power outlet. Suitable for short and simple presentations, IMHO.

Canada's Best Buy ads have featured the Telus HTC Touch Pro, appearing side-by-sde with the Touch Diamond as well as Touch Dual, confirming this highly anticipated handset will be making its way to Telus stores in due time. Unfortunately for us, the ad does not let in on other essential information such as pricing, specifications and release date, but with the ad being ready to run and all, one surely won't have to wait too much longer.

Samsung's Bresson cell phone has been leaked from retailer Phones4U, and this model forges way ahead of the rest in terms of megapixel count thanks to its 8 megapixel shooter. Also known as the M8800, the Bresson will come with the following :-
3.2" touch screen display
16 million colors
HSDPA support
aGPS navigation
Would be interesting to see how this handset holds up against the LG Renoir in terms of photography capability.

Folks at Crackberry have managed to get their hands on the BlackBerry Javelin and they have come to an early conclusion that this Curve upgrade is pretty decent, complete with BlackBerry's signature comfortable keyboard that is a snap to use. Features on the Javelin include :-
512MHz processor
HVGA+ display at 480 x 360 resolution
3.5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash
Wi-Fi connectivity
GPS navigation
microSD memory card slot
If only pricing and availability information is released to the masses, then we can start fleshing out our Christmas purchases slightly early

Samsung's Armani 2 phone merges both Korean and European idealogies into one device known as the Samsung Armani Night Effect. Features of this beautiful candybar handset includes :-
Quadband GSM/HSDPA connectivity
2.2? reinforced glass AMOLED display
3.2 megapixel camera without flash
Built-in FM Radio
Dedicated music player control buttons
120MB internal memory
microSD memory card slot
USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity
The shining LED bar around the sides and Emporio Armani logo on both front and back panels definitely add a touch of class, and screams yuppie all round. The Emporio Armani Samsung Night Effect is tipped to ship in Europe this November, followed by South East Asian and Middle East markets.

The LG Secret gets new shades that will definitely draw plenty of oohs and aahs from people around, including exotic names like Ruby Violet and Titan Gold. Picking up either will cost you around $600, and other than the change in its exterior shade, everything else within remains status quo including the 5 megapixel camera with video recording capability and tempered glass surface for greater durability. These new colors are tipped to roam around Asia and Europe only, with no further details on a North American release. Bummer.
